Chicana on the Edge

Mentioning the unmentionable since 2004

Cold Civil War
written by Regina Rodríguez-Martin

On this Election Day morning, it’s clear to me that the United States is in a state of cold civil war.

Conservatives of all degrees and liberals of all degrees believe people on the other side will destroy the country. And like the American Civil War, each believes God is on their side.

No matter which presidential candidate loses the actual election this year, the distrust and hatred will continue. Americans will grow more divided, the Great Sort will continue, and it will get harder to call our elections democratic (only a few states are expected to determine the next president this time).

We’re living in the Cold Civil War, and at 24 years and counting, it’s going a lot longer than our last one.
