5 Worst Practices for Small Business Owners

If you own and run a small business, here are some worst practices for you.

  1. When an employee doesn’t work out, don’t fire them or even speak with them about their performance. Initiate no dialogue at all. Instead change the location where they work and maybe change their tasks. Move them around the organization until they leave.
  2. If the employee does not leave on their own, have them work from home doing their usual tasks remotely, but tell them not to email, call or text you or other staff about anything, ever.
  3. Leave them full access to your client base and company files.
  4. Forget they have access to company email accounts, including your individual Gmail one.
  5. Accept the increased number of client mistakes you make each day because that employee was a critical part of office flow.

Hold this position indefinitely.

Pro tip: Do not examine the inner motivations that cause you to so completely avoid talking about anything uncomfortable.
