This year System Administrator Day falls on Friday, July 30th (publishing this July 19th to give you time to plan). From the SysAdmin Day website:

Your network is secure, your computer is up and running, and your printer is jam-free. Why? Because you’ve got an awesome sysadmin (or maybe a whole IT department)

[SysAdmin Day is the] perfect opportunity to pay tribute to the heroic men and women who, come rain or shine, prevent disasters, keep IT secure and put out tech fires left and right.

They suggest showing appreciation with the following:

  • Cake & Ice cream
  • Pizza
  • Gifts
  • Words of gratitude
  • (See the site for more ideas)

They offer more gift ideas here.

Even if your office is still working remotely, you can send remote gift cards or gifts to your IT person/team. I love sys admin people and would have been one if I’d had any head for writing computer programs, which I sadly did/do not.

Now I work for myself from home and don’t have any connection to an IT department, so if you do, please recognize your people because I can’t! I sorely miss having sys admin co-workers.
