Know about publishing?

In autumn 2012 I had had such a bizarre and frustrating experience of dog ownership that I used National Novel Writing Month to draft a memoir of what I’d been through the previous year with a pitbull mix mutt named Ozzie. Since then my manuscript has evolved to encompass being a new dog owner when I had no love of dogs, what happened to my marriage after we got the dog, how these events affected my chronic depression and vice versa, and how I was set up for all this struggle by my Mexican American childhood with an abusive mother.

Forced to create the type of quick-and-dirty description people like, I call it a cross between Marley and Me, A Marriage Story and a Mexican Mommie Dearest.

Eight years later, the dream lives that I’ll be able to find an agent and then a publisher for this memoir. But I don’t know how to start that process. If anyone reading this post has any advice, I’ll take it! But please do not tell me how to self-publish. I actually have all the information I need about self-publishing, including organizations that help authors publish and how I can get my book on Amazon.com. That advice I don’t need.

If my dream is to go the traditional route of finding an agent, etc. can anyone point me in the right direction?
